The apparent murder of a Greek-American business executive, his wife, 10-year-old son and their housekeeper inside a residence in one of Washington D.C.’s most exclusive neighborhoods shocked the US capital this week.
The victims are Savvas Savopoulos, 46; his wife, Amy Savopoulos, 47; their son, Philip, and housekeeper Veralicia Figueroa, 57, were found inside the multi-million dollar mansion, close to the residence of US VP Joe Biden.
Authorities said the perpetrator or perpetrators entered the home on Wednesday and tied up the four before killing at least three, in homicides ruled as coming from “blunt force” trauma.
According to inquisitr.com, police believe the suspect was known to the family, while no evidence of a break-in was detected.
Firefighters found the mansion burning on Thursday and the four bodies inside. Gasoline was also smelled at the scene.
“Investigators have a person of interest in the case, who was filmed at a banquet hall near the scene of a car fire; the car was a blue 2008 Porsche. It was stolen from the home and found in a church parking lot,” the site reported.
Savopoulos managed and was the primary owner of the building materials firm American Iron Works. Two older daughters were away at prep school and survived.
