State-run television reported on Wednesday evening that the Tsipras government is taking back a proposal for an increase in contributions from monthly pensions, viewed initially as an indirect cut in retirement pay.
The report came during ongoing talks in Brussels between the Greek side and representatives of institutional creditors.
The initial proposal called for an increase in contributions by 5 percent on supplementary pensions and 1 percent on primary pensions, and was applicable on all retirees.
According to the broadcaster, ERT, the move came after communication between the Greek PM, Alexis Tsipras, with his labor and social security ministers.
No information was given on what the radical leftist government will propose as an “off-set” measure to achieve the desired fiscal result — and demands by creditors.
