Evangelos Meimarakis, the leader of conservative New Democracy (ND) party, told Bloomberg on Sunday that his party would join a coalition government with Alexis Tsipras’ leftist SYRIZA.
“I believe in consensus and cooperation. We have proven throughout these years that when it’s for the good of the country, for safeguarding its place in the euro area, we’re willing to cooperate”, said the 61-year old political leader. He continued by warning that a ‘Grexit’ danger had not passed and that if there was an unstable government that danger would become more imminent.
Meimarakis repeated his view that Tsipras should not have called snap elections. “It is disastrous to hold elections every six months”, he pointed out.
