Thursday was another banner day for social media in Greece in the wake of leftist SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras’ tongue-in-cheek … self-canonization. The latest Internet “mini furor” comes days before Sunday’s election.
Here’s the graffiti Tsipras chose to post on his Twitter account, purportedly created during the run-up to the July 6 referendum.
His Tweet reads: “We are neither saints for (the faithful) to kiss our hands, nor do miracles happen when you abstain.”
In a bid to deflect a feared high rate of abstention by voters who backed the radical leftists in January and then duly voted “no” in the July referendum, Tsipras adds:
“No one can save a country without its people. Abstention at the ballot box supports the vested interests”.
Below is a photograph of one of the “faithful” who didn’t get the SYRIZA memo.
