Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) leader Alexis Tsipras said late on Thursday that the “recapitalization of Greek banks will start in October with the view to be completed by the end of 2015.” He made these comments on Star TV, underlining that since the recapitalization is will have been concluded by the end of 2015 there is no risk of a deposits haircut.
He said that the relaxation of capital controls has already begun and they will be lifted after the recapitalization of banks. Recession from capital controls, says Tsipras, is provisional with positive growth rates forecast for the first half of 2016.
During the interview, Tsipras stressed the importance of foreign investments on the provision that these are made on the right terms.
Following the elections, Tsipras said that SYRIZA would collaborate with other parties but ruled out a possible coalition with the conservative New Democracy (ND), the main opposition party on account of their vast ideological differences.
