Proto Thema newspaper’s investigation into Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) heavyweight Alekos Flambouraris have cast doubt on his integrity when in office. The 3.9-mln-euro public works contract, bearing his signature, implicates him despite his claims that he transfered a majority stake held in Diatmisi S.A. when he resigned from the company’s board.
The only way that the ex-minister can prove his innocense is by publicising his assets. Proto Thema’s request to have access to the 77-year-old’s assets files was denied by Greek Parliament’s 3rd Deputy Speaker Despina Charalambidou (a member of SYRIZA) refused opening the assets file submitted by Flambouraris on April 27.
Greek conservative New Democracy Party representative Nikitas Kaklamanis was just one opposition party member calling for the spotlight to be cast on the veteran leftist lawmaker’s assets. The only way that Flambouraris can prove his innocence and clear his name from any political wrongdoing is to publish the files himself.
