A councilor in the municipality of Paggaio, Kavala, northern Greece, was arrested following the publication of a video showing him beating his dog.  The video shows the man, aged 68, standing over the chained dog in his garden. He hits the animal repeatedly using a cane, but stops with the arrival of three women.

A vet who examined the dog found deep gashes to its head and bleeding in one of its eyes. The dog was clearly in a state of shock.

The video was filmed by a neighbor.
