The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will hold an emergency meeting on Tuesday at 5pm after Turkey shot down a Russian jet fighter, because it violated its airspace, as Turkey claims.

An official told the AP that the purpose of the meeting is to “for Turkey to inform allies about the downing of a Russian airplane” adding that NATO monitors closely the situation and is in contact with Turkish authorities after Turkey bringing down a Russian fighter, because, as Turkey claims, the jet had violated its airspace.

“NATO is closely monitoring the situation. We are in contact with the Turkish authorities,” the official said to AFP.
