Chios hotspot opens today (pics+vid)

70 refugees were welcomed and given to wear some bracelets with their number on it

The registration and identification center for refugees and migrants on the island of Chios is ready and welcomed 70 refugees on Tuesday.

While entering the hotspot constructed at the former factory of VI.AL. in Halkios, members of NRC organization gave refugees to wear some bracelets with their number on it and offered them bottled water.

Then, they were asked to fill in a form, while Frontex agents proceed with the registration and identification of the refugees.

The new hotspot is connected to the electronic database of personal data of European authorities so as suspects with links to terrorist groups would be prevented from entering the country.

The hotspot can host only 1095 people, while during the summer period it is estimated that 2500-3000 refugees and migrants will arrive every day.

 

The hotspot constructed at former military camp ‘Stefanakis’ at Schisto opened its doors to journalists and Defence Minister Panos Kammenos.

The center will host only Syrian refugees, while the first 500 people will be transferred there by the end of February.

The infrastructure has the capacity to host 1200 persons, while it provides that can accommodate up to 2,500 people.

At the same time a special place has been constructed to host 200 unaccompanied children in tents, while two large tents for praying have also been set up.

Moreover, the hotspot in Schisto features facilities for catering, medical care and toilettes.
