Former FinMin Varoufakis blasts Hollande on labour reforms (photos+videos)

Ex-FinMin also spikes Tsipras during his address to the gathered crowds

Newsroom April 18 12:09

Former Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis blasted French President Francois Hollande, during his appearance at a rally by French workers in Paris, who were protesting against Hollnde’s labour market reforms. Varoufakis, who showed up at the gathering in a show of solidarity, received a rock star’s reception by the gathered demonstrators. The ‘erratic marxists’, as he calls himself, addressed the huge Parisian crowd packed in the ‘Democracy Square’ accusing Hollande of undermining the labour market by introducing the new reforms. He told the protesters that the atmosphere reminded him of the large 2011 anti-austerity demonstrations in Athens at Syntagma Square. At one point Varoufakis took the microphone and urged the French people to not allow actions to promote careers and called on them to unite for all Europe and make a difference, in a statement that could be construed as an indirect ‘spike’ against his former SYRIZA comrade, Greek PM Alexis Tsipras, for selling out the Greek people to further his political career. “I bring you solidarity from Athens, London and Hannover Germany’, he told the French. French media report that the youth gathered at ‘Democracy Square’ in Paris welcomed the ex-Greek Finance Minister with cheers and elation. Varoufakis also criticised the deal between Athens and Turkey on the refugee crisis. ‘Europe is rich enough and large enough to face the refugee crisis in a way that does not cast doubt on our humanity and reason’, he said. The major ‘Democracy Square’ in the capital of France has become the focal point of unprecedented demonstrations and protests, called ‘Vigil’ over the past 2 weeks, with citizens gathering across 50 cities in France to protest against Francois Hollande’s proposed labour reforms.
