The Hellenic Confederation of Commerce & Entrepreneurship (ESEE) released its annual findings on the cost of the Easter feast for the average Greek family and found a slight 1.02 percent  rise in comparison to 2015. The data collected through sample inspections of prices on supermarket goods and meats at central Athens meat market ‘Varvakios’ indicated a increase in the cost of meats by 7.51 percent. The hiked price in the meat products is attributed to the upward spike of poultry costs by 21.05 percent, pork by 4.65 percent, local lamb produce by 1.54 percent and goat by 2.82 percent. The overall retention of the upward trend in the price of this year’s Easter feast is explained by the fact that prices in vegetables and fruits dropped by a combined 18.9 percent. The report records a mean average rise in supermarket costs of 8.25 percent attributed mainly to the increase of medium products from the 13% VSAT bracket to the 23% higher level VAT.
