The EU border control services, Frontex, released a report claiming the agreement between the EU and Turkey is bearing fruits, as refugee flows crossing into Europe by the Aegean Sea dropped by 90% in April compared to March. According to Frontex, 2,700 people landed in Greece from Turkey in April, most of them from Syria, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Based on the agreement all refugees and migrants, including Syrians, entering Europe through Turkey are sent back. In exchange, the EU receives thousands of refugees directly from Turkey. The deal provides that as long as Turkey continues to uphold its obligations it will receive free visa travel to the EU for its citizens and an speeding up of its EU admission process. Italy received 8,370 migrants via the north African sea route, most of whom are from Eritrea, Egypt and Nigeria.
