When parents pose for family photos they aim to capture a sense of love, warmth, joy andf togetherness. Joshua Hoffine, a photographer is not your average parent, though. The professional photographer, and dad from Kansas city has a very unique take on family photos. “I stage my photoshoots like small movies, with sets, costumes, elaborate props, and special effects make-up,” he told Buzzfeed. “I stage everything live in front of the camera, and use friends and family as actors and crew, including my daughters.”, he said. The catch is that his family photos depict horror films! “I became increasingly interested in the psychology of fear — where does it come from, how does it work?”, he says. This fascination with fear led him to focus on things children are scared of, and highlight those themes in much of his early work.
