Britain’s PM David Cameron was moved during his speech at the EU Summit dinner, as he bid his colleagues farewell. According to sources in Brussels, David Cameron delivered an emotional speech during the EU leaders’ dinner, while the same source said Cameron’s successor will represent Britain during the exit talks of Britain at the next EU Summit, which could be held on September 16 or 27 at Bratislava, in Slovakia.

The dilemma that emerged from the EU Summit is whether the remaining EU leaders would push for a ‘velvet’ split or opt for a hard bargain in the negotiations for Britain’s exit pushing for the UK to immediately invoke article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty. The question can only become clear when the new British PM takes office and reveals his intentions on whether he will make a swift move to move forward with the exit procedures and activate article 50. There are two camps within the EU on the timetable of the British exit. On the one hand, Germany, the Netherlands, Lithuania are in favour of offering the UK some time and adopt a slower approach, while on the other hand EU institutions and member-states want the immediate invocation of article 50 so that exit procedures can move as fast as possible.
