What kind of properties do Greeks prefer?

A survey reveals that small apartments are the most popular

Newsroom September 7 05:16

Greeks prefer to rent a small, up to 20 years old, apartment, according to a nationwide survey from the real estate service RE/MAX. Rents dropped in Athens but continued to rise in Karditsa and Volos. The same prices have been observed in Thessaloniki, Syros and Mykonos.
At the same time, rents have dropped by 1% from last year. The most remarkable fall (11%) is seen in Patra and Corfu, while Lamia’s rents fell by 7%. On the other side, 7% rise was seen in Karditsa and Volos
In Athens, the biggest drop has been noticed in the “rich regions”, Ekali and Psychiko (13%), the western suburbs (10%) and some regions of the centre, such as Ampelokipoi (11%). The other regions’ prices stayed the same as last year, with the exception of Kolonaki, where there has been a rise of 5%.
In most regions of Thessaloniki the prices were the same as last year. Only in the centre of the town, a small rise (3%-8%) has been recorded.

The profile of the most popular properties
In regions of Athens, like Nea Smirni, Halandri, Marousi, Agia Paraskeui, the most popular properties are two bedroom apartments, 80 square meters big, rented for 400-500 Euros.
In less “rich” regions such as Koridallos and Nikaia, tenants also prefer 2 bedroom apartments for 350 euros but in more expensive suburbs, like Kifisia and Nea Erithrea they mostly ask for 2 floor houses, more than 150 square meters big, rented for 1000-1200 Euros. In the most expensive regions of the capital (Palio Psychiko, Filothei, Ekali), tenants look for big houses for a price of 1.500-2.500 Euros.
In Thessaloniki, the most popular properties are the one bedroom apartments for a price of 250-300 euros. In the expensive areas, such as Panorama, tenants prefer bigger houses (180 s.m.) for a price of 700 euros.
In big towns Volos, Larisa and Patra, the most popular apartments are small,  rented for 180 to 300 Euros, while in Lamia and Karditsa the preference is to 3 bedroom apartments rented for 300 Euros. In the popular islands, one or two bedroom apartments are rented for 250 Euros in Syros and 700-800 euros in Mykonos.
