Game of Thrones has broken the record for the highest number of Emmy Awards won by any fictional series of all times. The sixth season of the HBO series swept all before it at the 2016 awards, becoming the most garlanded show in Emmys history in the process.
The HBO fantasy drama triumphed in three categories at Sunday’s ceremony, including outstanding drama series.
The show’s total number of awards now stands at 38, which means it has beaten Frasier’s previous record of 37.
The 38 Emmys won by Game of Thrones includes the nine trophies the series picked up at last weekend’s Creative Arts Emmys.
the series won the best drama series award for the second year in a row.
The HBO series was up for 24 awards and came away with 12 at Sunday night’s Emmy awards in Los Angeles.

Outstanding lead actor in a drama: Rami Malek in Mr Robot
Outstanding lead actress in a drama: Tatiana Maslany in Orphan Black
Outstanding lead actor in a comedy: Jeffrey Tambor in Transparent
Outstanding lead actress in a comedy: Julia Louis-Dreyfus, in Veep
