Tsipras: Mitsotakis the ‘child of Siemens’

Greek PM addresses party central committee

Newsroom October 23 02:54

Speaking at his party’s central committee, Greek PM Alexis Tsipras defended the recent TV law passed in parliament, claiming it was the answer to “unconstitutionality”. SYRIZA’s central committee proceedings commenced on Sunday with Alexis Tsipras’s speech, where the Greek PM accused opposition leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis of being in bed with special financial interests and dubbed him the “child of Siemens and economic interests”. Tsipras sent a clear message to party members urging them to end the lack of coordination and any internal political moves to split off from the party. He said that the left faced great challenges and open fronts that demanded constant battles that would decide the outcome of the country’s place in the 21st century, as well as the place of the left in the political landscape in Greece and Europe. “In those battles we must be victorious”, Tsiprs said. On the controversial issue of the TV licenses, he asserted it was a matter of defending democracy, adding that SYRIZA had upheld its commitment bringing order in the radio television landscape. “In our efforts to hold the TV licensing tenders we were opposed by the media owners and New Democracy”, Tsipras stressed.
