With the U.S. presidential elections a breath away, many celebrities are revealing who they will be voting for on November 8, and two of American pop culture’s most powerful icons – Beyoncé and her husband Jay Z – took part in a star-packed political rally for Hillary Clinton in Ohio on Friday to lend support to the Democratic presidential candidate.
After performing the purposely chosen songs “Formation,” a hit single, “Freedom,” and “Run the World (Girls),” Beyoncé gave a speech in which she explained why she wanted her daughter, Blue Ivy, to see a woman leading the world: “Less than 100 years ago, women did not have the right to vote,” she said. “Look how far we’ve come from having no voice to being on the brink of making history again by electing the first woman president….Eight years ago, I was so inspired that my nephew, a young black child, could grow up knowing his dreams could be realized by witnessing a black president in office. And now, we have the opportunity to create more change. I want my daughter to grow up seeing a woman lead our country and know that her possibilities are limitless.”
Thanking Beyoncé and Jay Z for their support, Hillary said: “When I see them here, this passion and energy and intensity, I don’t even know where to begin. Because this is what America is, my friends.”
