According to a research published on Scientific Reports, Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) a.k.a. E171 may be responsible for carcinogenesis. E171 is used in sweets, chocolates, biscuits, chewing-gums, toothpastes, sun-creams etc.

The scientific team experimented with lab-rats and found out that there was indeed an increased possibility of cancer cells to appear.

For the time being it is not clear if the same is true for humans or not, but the researchers are warning that especially children that consume such products should be more careful.

It is not the first time that E171 has been researched with warring results, but it is the first time there are evidence of such results when E171 is entering the organism through the mouth and stomach.
