According to the US Census, there are only nine jobs — including special-education teachers, counselors, and TSA screeners — where women earn more than men.
Turns out, there’s a 10th.
In January, CNBC polled a number of people in the pornography industry and found out that female performers usually out-earn their male counterparts. By a lot.
The average porn actress earns between $800 and $1,000 for a male-female sex scene, while men in porn average $500-$600 per scene.
Here’s CNBC’s breakdown in porn pay range:
Pay can also vary depending on the act performed, as well as the performer’s experience. Top female talent can make as much as $2,000 or $2,500 per scene, depending on what exactly is being filmed.
Think of it this way: If you’re a full-time pornstar, you’re probably earning a six-figure income.
Male “superstars” typically earn no more than $1,500 per scene.
It’s sad that there are only 10 identified jobs where women earn more than men, because most often working women earn 79% of what men earn.
On the plus side though, it *is* nice to know that women in porn get paid competitively in comparison to men, especially given that this is an industry that hasn’t historically been very friendly OR safe for women.
