Five people have been reportedly killed in Stockholm when a truck rammed into a large crowd in the centre of Stockholm. The incident is being treated as a suspected terror attack, according to local media.
Multiple people have been injured, Swedish police announced. Reports says shots were heard before the truck crashed into the crowd.
According to eyewitness accounts, the truck was out of control and crashed into a wall close to a crowded shopping mall. An eyewitness described what he saw as the truck approached: “I was on the main road when a truck came out of nowhere. I couldn’t see how, but it lost control. I saw it crashed into at least two people”. Rescue crews are on the scene, as well as fire-fighting vehicles. It is not yet clear whether the incident is a terrorist attack. People are fleeing the area according to Swedish media. Swedish Police spokesperson Towe Hagg confirmed people had been injured but could not confirm three people had been killed. The Swedish news agency TT reports that a large number of people have been taken to hospital.
