According to reports from the Turkish state-run news agency Anadolu, the two Greek soldiers who accidentally crossed into Turkey and were arrested on charges of espionage, have been released.

Angelos Mitretodis and Dimitris Kouklatzis have been detained in Adrianople since March and now the court that was overseeing their case to be released has said that there are no grounds to continue to hold them in custody.

The court’s decision does not provide for restrictive measures, so the two soldiers can return to Greece.

Greece’s Prime Minister, Alexis Tsipras reacted to the release on twitter, tweeting:

“The release of the two Greek soldiers is an act of justice, which will help to strengthen friendship, good neighborliness and stability in the region. I want to congratulate and thank our two officers and their families for their vigor, patience and confidence in the efforts of all of us, who have finally been justified. Angel, and Dimitris, a good homeland, and good liberty.”
