ND denies Athens News Agency leak over pension cuts

KINAL party also denied they were informed by the creditors' representatives

Newsroom September 14 01:19

Major opposition party New Democracy (ND) and minor opposition party KINAL (Movement of Change) have denied a telegram by the state-run Athens News Agency (AMNA), according to which the opposition was informed by the creditors’ representatives in Athens that they had not discussed the measure of suspending but cancelling the pension cuts from January 2019.
According to New Democracy, the representatives of the Institutions during the meeting of September 11 with ND executives “did not clarify their intentions”.
“We rebut AMNA that such a matter has been discussed with us. The issue was raised by us, they (Troika) did not have it on the agenda. We told them that pensions should not be reduced,” the Secretary of Communication of KINAL (Movement of Change), Stamatis Malelis told THEMA 104,6.
New Democracy estimates that the report was a provocation in an effort to detrimentally affect the presence of leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Thessaloniki International Fair that starts today and will end on Sunday with the press conference. As ND officials say, the proposals to be presented by the party’s president at TIF are “directly applicable, costed and concern all Greeks”.

The institutions consider Greece’s social security system sustainable and were discussing the cancellation of the measure to cut pensions, according to sources of the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA).
