President Donald Trump has ordered an FBI probe into accusations of sexual misconduct against his nominee for the US Supreme Court Judge Brett Kavanaugh.
A Senate committee voted (11-10) on Friday to approve Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the highest US court, but a Republican member only backed the approval on condition that such Trump’s choice would be vetted by the FBI.
This means the confirmation of Judge Kavanaugh has been delayed for up to a week, pending the results of the FBI investigation on the sexual misconduct allegations.
Kavanaugh, an appeal court judge, vehemently denied allegations from at least three women.
“I’ve ordered the FBI to conduct a supplemental investigation to update Judge Kavanaugh’s file. As the Senate has requested, this update must be limited in scope and completed in less than one week.”, President Trump announced on Friday.
The FBI has already made a background check on Kavanaugh and will reopen his case, which might involve going back to old witnesses.
