Impressive photos of largest sailing yacht “Maltese Falcon” in Kastellorizo (video)

Elena Ambrosiadou arrived with her friends on Thursday on the island

Newsroom August 24 04:51

The small Greek island of Kastellorizo in the Eastern Mediterranean was in the news recently as the epicentre of a heated dispute between Greece and Turkey and the delimitation of the Greek EEZ as a result of Turkey’s provocative actions.

But for a couple of days it became the focus of attention for a positive reason, as the famous and full rigged sailing yacht, Maltese Falcon arrived in its waters with its new owner, Greek Cypriot businesswoman Elena Ambrosiadou.

Inspired by the same name film starring iconic Humphrey Bogart, the vessel is one of the world’s most complex and largest sailing yachts at 88 m, with its sails spanning an impressive 15 square metres which are electronically controlled and open in just six minutes, while it has six luxury cabins for guests and another eight for the 18-member crew!

Elena Ambrosiadou arrived with her friends on Thursday on the island, where the measure for closing the shops does not apply at midnight and so they stayed to enjoy their seafood until late at night in the famous restaurant “Alexandra”!

The Maltese Falcon uses DynaRig technology, which was built by Perini Navi in Tuzla, and commissioned by her first owner, Tom Perkins. The vessel dropped her BVI flag in 2008 and was purchased by Pleon Ltd, which put her to charter use. Famous charterers include actors Tom Hanks and Hugh Jackman, Google-co founder Larry Page and Norwegian production company Fantefilm.
