PM Mitsotakis and Cypriot President Anastasiades co-ordinate efforts ahead of Geneva Summit

The two met in Athens on Wednesday

Newsroom April 21 12:08

PM Mitsotakis and Cypriot President Anastasiadis sent a clear message to Turkey on the matter of the status of the Cypriot state and the resolution of the problem in a visit by the latter to Athens on Wednesday.

The coordination of the efforts of Greece and Cyprus, in view of the informal five-party meeting that will take place in Geneva on the Cyprus issue, was the subject of the meeting that Kyriakos Mitsotakis had at the Maximos Hall with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades.

The Greek Prime Minister noted that the context of the discussions that will take place in Geneva is absolutely clear as “it is based on all previous decisions of the Organization’s Security Council”.

“The solution can be found only in the context of the bi-zonal, bi-communal federation, a sovereignty, a citizenship, an international representation and of course with the withdrawal of the occupying armies, but also the abolition of the anachronistic framework of guarantees,” said Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

“It is absolutely clear that we can determine in these difficult discussions what the starting point is from where we are starting. That is why today, as we did in Cyprus, we will be given the opportunity to coordinate our actions in view of these demanding discussions in which we always come in a good mood to find a solution that will be fair, functional, and sustainable to the benefit of all Cypriots, Greek Cypriots, and Turkish Cypriots.”

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, on his part, set the framework for the settlement of the Cyprus problem, during the meeting with Kyriakos Mitsotakis. “The evolution of the Republic of Cyprus to create a functioning and viable state rid from occupation troops and guarantees, and especially away from dependencies of third parties,” he stressed.

Addressing Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, he thanked him once again for this meeting.
