Greece has reported the first case of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus, as the Minister of Health, Thanos Plevris, said during the press briefing about the new measures for the obligatory vaccination.
According to what he said, the case concerns a Greek from South Africa and continued by saying the Greek authorities have started a detailed tracking of his contacts and he has been isolated.
The man is of Greek origin, a permanent resident of Johannesburg, who travelled by air from South Africa and is in Crete.
According to parakritika.gr, the case was located in the Prefecture of Chania.
As Mr. Plevris said, it was a matter of time before the mutation was detected in Greece and assured that our country complies with all protocols.
Then, the president of EODY, Theoklis Zaoutis, gave details about the specific case, saying that the said citizen came to Greece from South Africa on a flight on November 26th. A rapid test was performed at the airport which was negative.
As he said the next day he showed mild symptoms of coronavirus, with are present to this day. He did a rapid test every day which showed him negative until November 29, when the test showed him positive.
