Newsroom December 7 01:47

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Anastasiadis and the Prime Minister of Israel Naftali Bennett, in the context of the Tripartite Summit of Greece, Cyprus, and Israel.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis, among other things, stated during the joint press conference in Jerusalem: “Relations with Israel have never been better, and the project of the International Training centre in Kalamata is a result and a testament of this durable and strategic partnership that we have managed to forge.”

He went on to talk about Covid and what Greece had learned from Israel adding that “the most important message we received was that we must continue to vaccinate aggressively.”

“We will talk about areas of joint cooperation, the conclusions of COP26, and energy. We will have the opportunity to discuss regional challenges and unfortunate events that have taken place in Cyprus in recent months and the challenges with Varosha. We will also talk about the post-Covid economic recovery efforts. We look forward to meaningful discussions.”

Earlier, Naftali Bennett said: “My friend Nikos, my friend Kyriakos, welcome to Jerusalem. Our countries have one of the most ancient civilisations, with a deep history and rich heritage, in the Eastern Mediterranean region. We share common values for prosperity, security, and freedom. We recognise the threats in the area and the challenges, we are concerned about security. We are constantly strengthening relationships with our friends at all levels. We want to upgrade our energy partnership with East Med, we work with Covid and climate change. You are not just allies, you are real friends.”
