140% increase in tourist revenues compared to 2020: Greek Tourism Minister

Vassilis Kikilias said the numbers exceeded forecasts

Newsroom December 17 11:50

Greek Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias pointed out the resilience of Greek tourism during the pandemic period speaking in the Plenary Session of the Parliament.

As he said, “traffic by September increased by more than 90% compared to 2020, travel receipts 140%, while the travel balance showed a surplus of 8.033 billion euros, 5 billion more than the corresponding surplus of 2020 and at the closing of the year we will see that we have far exceeded 10 billion. I remind you that the initial forecasts spoke of revenues of the order of 5-6 billion euros “.

Speaking about the state budget, the Minister of Tourism stated that the campaign for winter tourism abroad has already started, while “the campaign for domestic tourism and then for the city break will follow, starting from Athens and Thessaloniki. The summer season this year will start in March for those destinations that it is possible, mainly due to the climate. And with great optimism in our contacts with all airlines, tour operators, cruise companies, we see an increase in availability, flights, itineraries, destinations”.
