In many road networks, the use of anti-skid chains are necessary

Newsroom December 18 04:28

Snow has covered many parts of Greece as the severe weather system “Carmel” is in full swing.

Numerous photos from various regions of Greece show astonishing snowy landscapes, but there have been many problems reported as a result of the snow.

“There is a power outage at the moment in Kirinthos, Mantoudi, Prokopi, Pili, Vlachia, and Dafnousa as a medium voltage column has fallen in the place of Paliouria, Evia”, as the mayor George Tsapourniotis stated to evima.gr.

According to the Greek Police, due to the snowfall, the traffic has been stopped in parts of Parnithos Avenue and Fylis Street. In particular, the stream of Parnitha Avenue to the casino was closed, from the height of the cable car and Fylis Street, at the height of the Holy Monastery of the Assumption of the Virgin, to the stream to Dervenochoria.

The continuous snowfall has also caused problems in the provincial road network of the Peloponnese.

In Arcadia, vehicles are only moving with the use of anti-skid chains from the 20th to the 35th kilometre of the provincial road Leonidiou – Kosma. Also from the 25th to the 42nd kilometer of Leonidiou – Peleton-Mariou road.

In Corinth, on the provincial road Kiatou – Goura-Kadtanis (from the 16th kilometer) and from the 4th to the 14th kilometer on the road Gouras-Greveniou the use of anti-skid chains are also necessary.

In Messinia, traffic is also conducted with anti-skid chains from the 32nd to the 42nd kilometer of Kalamata-Sparta, through Taygetos.

At the same time, according to the local media, evianews.com, an operation to free a person took place in the area of Steni, Evia, with a happy ending.
