Eleven refugees or illegal migrants drowned when the sailing boat they were onboard started sinking near the Greek island of Antikythera on Thursday. Meanwhile, 90 more people were rescued (52 men, 11 women, and 27 children) from the rocky islet of Prasonisi, north of Antikythera where the vessel went adrift.

A search and rescue operation (SAR) was carried out in the wider sea area as well as an underwater search by officers of the Underwater Missions Unit inside the sailing boat, which sank where it ended up, during which a total of eleven (11) bodies were collected, which will be transferred to the port of Piraeus. According to initial reports, the boat had sailed from the coast of Turkey bound for the Italian coast.
