A Pakistani man was charged with attempted rape in the city of Sparta after he reportedly tried to sexually attack a 22-year-old Greek woman on Friday

The Prosecutor of Sparta filed a criminal prosecution for a crime against the 40-year-old man for the attempted rape of the 22-year-old in the center of the city.

According to reports by local media, the incident took place two hours after midnight on Thursday.

The girl, of Greek origin, was returning from her work at a restaurant, stopped at an ATM, and immediately after, continued on her way home.

Then she realized that a man was following her. She immediately called her friend, feeling threatened.

At the intersection of Lykourgou and Leonidou streets, the perpetrator removed her mobile phone from her hands and attacked her. The shocked girl started screaming and tried to escape from Leonidou Street, but the perpetrator just outside the Military Club attacked her again, threw her on the sidewalk, tried to rip her pants off to rape her.

The girl’s female friend had meanwhile arrived and confronted the perpetrator who tried to flee the scene but was arrested by police who had just arrived.

The perpetrator will appear before the court to present his case next Tuesday 22.
