US President Biden announces embargo on Russian oil and gas imports

Joe Biden expressed his support for Ukraine and President Volodymyr Zelensky

Newsroom March 8 06:54

With clear statements against Vladimir Putin and condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, US President Joe Biden announced a US embargo on Russian oil and other energy sources.

In his speech, Joe Biden expressed his support for Ukraine and President Volodymyr Zelensky and noted that they remain faithful to the implementation of NATO Article 5, which concerns the protection of the territory of the Alliance countries. “We continue to implement the sanctions package that is causing problems in Russia,” he said, adding that “freedom costs and will cost Americans as well.” In this way, he wanted to emphasise that the measures against Russia create a new reality to which everyone is contributing.

Biden said the Russian attack would cost all, adding that he did not want anyone to profit from the current situation. “It is not true that we have delayed oil production in the United States,” he said, noting that the first quarter of his term the production was higher than ever.

Speaking about the Ukrainian people and the resistance to the Russian invasion, Biden said that “the Ukrainian people have inspired us with their determination to remain free. Putin continues his assassination practice regardless of the cost”, the US president said, adding that “we have seen schools and hospitals being bombed.” He went on to say that Putin could conquer a city, a victory, but “he will never take Ukraine, it will not be recorded as a victory.”
