Chris Rock mocks the idea of “Safe Abortions”: “Only one person dies, I guess?”

Chris Rock does not appear to oppose abortion, but at least he's honest

Newsroom April 6 09:46

Comedian Chris Rock jabbed at the notion of a “safe abortion” during a comedy set.

Rock performed at the Borgata in Atlantic City on Saturday night — less than one week after his infamous confrontation with Will Smith at the Oscars, Philadelphia Magazine reported. Tickets were selling for as much as $1,000 in the hours before the event, marking a massive surge in demand to see the comedian.

The outlet reported that the “only time the audience seemed to collectively cringe” was when Rock commented on abortion. He mocked the idea of a “safe abortion,” observing that a “safe abortion is an abortion where only one person dies, I guess?”

Rock, however, by no means appears to oppose abortion. Rock reportedly joked that he’s not pro-choice but “pro better choice,” telling women that “if you have to pay for your own abortion, get an abortion.”

The notion that abortion is “safe” — despite the child killed through the procedure — is a common catchphrase. The World Health Organization says that “abortion is a safe health care intervention” when carried out using the appropriate method. Planned Parenthood claims that “both in-clinic and medication abortions are very safe” and that “abortion is one of the safest medical procedures out there.”

Planned Parenthood completed 354,871 “abortion procedures” in 2020, according to the organization’s 2020 annual report. The figure amounts to 972 abortions per day and 41 abortions per hour across the United States. Planned Parenthood, based on those statistics, carries out an abortion every ninety seconds.

Though America’s 862,000 annual abortions represent the leading cause of death in the United States, Planned Parenthood’s abortions alone would represent the third-leading cause of death, followed by COVID-19, accidental deaths, respiratory disease, stroke, and Alzheimer’s disease as of 2020.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis assured farmers that all payments owed to them will be delivered in full, emphasizing that while agricultural workers have every right to demand more support, “extreme forms of protest, such as roadblocks, may exert pressure but ultimately disrupt daily life and do not help us move forward faster”
