Firefighters have mobilised to the town of Schimataria in Boeotia, 65km north of Athens after a fire broke out in an agroforestry area.

20 firefighters with 10 vehicles are operating on the scene, while 4 Canadairs and two helicopters are assisting from the air. The fire is moving towards the Vrysoula area, according to the latest reports. Strong winds blowing in the area are hindering the firefighters’ efforts.

According to government sources, a message will be sent from 112 to the residents of the areas close to the fire.

“The fire started just outside Delesi, for this reason, we have requested the precautionary evacuation of the settlement. It is on the border with the residential area. The strong winds are not helping at all. But I believe that we may be ahead of the worst because we are waiting for another fire brigade to arrive. We are waiting for three more planes”, says the mayor of Tanagra Vassilis Pergalias to protothema.gr.
