The aerial assets are operating again battling against the fire and the strong winds

The aerial assets of the Hellenic Fire Brigade rose at 06:00 on Wednesday morning in order to help extinguish the fire fronts in Attica.

According to information, the main objective for the aerial assets is to be able to operate as the conditions are difficult both due to the strong winds and due to the thick smoke that has covered the fronts in Penteli, Anthousa, Gerakas and Pallini.

According to the latest update, 3 Canadair 415s, two Erickson helicopters, a Bell214 and a coordinating BK117 have started to operate on the scene.

Due to the density of the smoke, throwing water is not yet possible.

The operations will start around the perimeter mainly on the eastern side of the fire, on the back side of Penteli.

Wind gusts even reached ten Beaufort yesterday, forcing aircraft such as the smaller Air Tractors to withdraw as they could not make water drops.

 

According to ERT, there have been information of arson.

Social Care Centers were evacuated during the night, after the outbreak of the fire in Penteli, firefighters and citizens with breathing problems and minor injuries were transferred to hospitals in Athens for assistance, according to an announcement by EKAB.

Three firefighters with breathing problems and minor injuries were transferred to 251 Military Hospital and 5 civilians were transported to hospitals with a slight burns.
