The aerial assets are operating again battling against the fire and the strong winds

3 Canadair 415s, two Erickson helicopters, a Bell214 and a BK117 have started operating on the area

Newsroom July 20 07:19

The aerial assets of the Hellenic Fire Brigade rose at 06:00 on Wednesday morning in order to help extinguish the fire fronts in Attica.

According to information, the main objective for the aerial assets is to be able to operate as the conditions are difficult both due to the strong winds and due to the thick smoke that has covered the fronts in Penteli, Anthousa, Gerakas and Pallini.

According to the latest update, 3 Canadair 415s, two Erickson helicopters, a Bell214 and a coordinating BK117 have started to operate on the scene.

Due to the density of the smoke, throwing water is not yet possible.

The operations will start around the perimeter mainly on the eastern side of the fire, on the back side of Penteli.

Wind gusts even reached ten Beaufort yesterday, forcing aircraft such as the smaller Air Tractors to withdraw as they could not make water drops.

According to ERT, there have been information of arson.
