An athlete who made his cross during the fifth Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya Turkey drew attention causing strong reactions.

The news of the incident was covered by the Turkish website aykiri.com.tr which reported that shortly before the start of a track and field event one of the athletes formed the sign of the cross.

“Who is the athlete making the sign of the cross at the Islamic Solidarity Games?” writes the Turkish sondakika06 in her title.

As it became known from the organisers, adds the website, there are no religious prohibitions for the athletes participating in the Islamic Solidarity Games, which were held this year with the participation of 56 Muslim countries and the presence of the president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Many Muslims took to social media to express their strong reactions, as reported by some media outlets about the snapshot, but, as those who react explain, they were not disturbed by the religious faith of the competing athlete, but by the display of the image in competitions that have the name “Islamic”.

It was also reported that the protagonist of the… episode came from an Islamic country in the Far East, but is a Christian.
