A shocking video shows the moment a police officer on a moped goes airborne after a head-on collision with a vehicle in Athens. The terrifying traffic accident was aired on Alpha TV and shows the officer flying 10 metres in the air before landing on the road on his back.

The video was shared on social media by a police officer who signs as “Konstantinos”, in an effort to appeal to both his colleagues and the public to wear a helmet. The police officer, who was seriously injured, retrieved the footage from a store’s closed-circuit camera and posted it to raise awareness.

As can be seen in the video, a car driver was driving in the opposite lane while he was moving with his motorcycle. This resulted in the two crashing with great severity and the police officer being thrown off his motorcycle. As he says, he was saved by the helmet and needed minor operations.
