UPDATE:

The reaction of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Turkey’s announcements after the meeting of the Security Council, held today, under the presidency of Erdogan, was immediate.

“Turkey has every right to defend its interests by any legal means, under the basic condition that it accepts the rules of International Law. However, it has no right to flagrantly violate International Law and threaten Greece with war (casus belli).

Greece does not present any claim against Turkey. It is in favor of dialogue on the basis of International Law. It will, however, defend its legitimate interests and rights if the need arises.”

Turkey is talking about “Greek provocations”, continuing its aggressive rhetoric after the meeting of the Security Council, which took place today, under the presidency of Erdogan and lasted for four hours.

“The provocative actions of Greece, which has not abandoned its illegal practices, despite our calls to comply with international law, have recently been thoroughly discussed”, reads the statement issued by Ankara after the meeting.

“Let the circles that encourage Greece to arm the islands that have military status come to their senses. We will use all kinds of legal methods and means for the rights and interests of our nation”, added the same statement, according to Hurriyet.

The Turks even accuse Greece of “departing from logic, reaching the point of sabotaging NATO actions and attacking ships sailing in international waters”.

“We call on the US to revoke the decision to lift the arms embargo on Cyprus, as it is contrary to the spirit of the NATO Alliance,” the same also statement underlines.

The neighbor’s Security Council also underlines that actions to defend the rights of the Turkish Cypriots will continue with determination, “so that all countries recognize the independence of the TRNC”.

According to Hurriyet’s online edition, the main issues in the Security Council meeting were “Greece’s moves that increase tension in the Aegean, the militarization of the islands, domestic and cross-border counter-terrorist operations and the impact on the region due to war between Russia and Ukraine”.
