At least eight people were killed by Russian strikes this morning in Kyiv and the Sumy region of northeastern Ukraine, local authorities said.
“Today, from the (Russian) attack on an apartment building in Kiev, four people were killed,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a Telegram post, accompanying the message with a photo of the building.
A video posted on social media recorded on a GoPro shows a traffic officer on a bridge with his colleagues trying to shoot down a drone with their machine guns moments before it explodes close to where they are standing as they are scrambling to take cover.
Smoke can be seen rising from the building, as well as a huge pile of debris, while firefighters continue their work.
“Among (the victims) is a young family who was expecting a baby,” Zelenskiy added.
Early this morning, exactly one week after the previous Russian attack on Kiev, an AFP journalist saw a drone crash into the building as two police officers attempted to shoot it down with their service weapons. Several loud explosions were heard.
