The Greek Traffic Police carried out over 107,000 checks and 66% of the violations were related to speeding, helmet, seat belt, driving license revocation, and illegal parking, issuing a staggering 23,000 tickets in only one week.
In particular, between October 16 and 22, 2022, 107,150 traffic checks of drivers and vehicles were carried out and 22,940 violations were confirmed, of which 66% of violations related to excessive speed, failure to use a protective helmet, failure to use a seat belt, loss of driver’s license and illegal parking!
Out of these, 7,050 violations related to illegal parking, 4,812 to excessive speed, 1,477 to driving without a driver’s license, 986 for not using a protective helmet, 775 for not using a seat belt, 595 for lacking Roadworthy papers (K.T.E.O.), 521 for driving while intoxicated, 418 for traffic light violation, 316 for using a mobile phone, 163 for driving against the traffic flow, 155 for illegal maneuvers, 125 for worn tires, 72 for not keeping a safe distance, 170 for illegal overtaking, 62 for oncoming traffic on a one-way road, 31 for driver distraction, 26 for improper use of lights and 24 in not using child seats,16 for priority violation, and 4,751 for other violations.
The Greek Police attach particular importance to road safety issues and in this context, the controls will continue with unabated intensity in order to reduce traffic accidents.
