Greek rockers rejoice! – Legendary Deep Purple finally in Athens at Rockwave Festival

They will take the stage at Terra Vibe, in Malakasa

Newsroom November 8 05:46

The Greek public was expecting them two years ago, but the pandemic cancelled their arrival twice. But this time it is certain. The legendary rock band Deep Purple will be in Athens this summer in order to give a big concert on July 7 at Terra Vibe, in Malakasa, as part of this year’s Rockwave Festival.

The history of Deep Purple spans more than 50 years. It begins in 1968 when, in Hertford, Great Britain, a group of musicians appeared that would soon be called Deep Purple and would quickly join the Heretical Holy Trinity of British hard rock/heavy metal, along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath.

With a career spanning five decades, with emblematic tracks such as ‘Smoke on The Water’, ‘Child in Time’, ‘Strange Kind of Woman’, ‘Black Night’, ‘Highway Star’, ‘Perfect Strangers’, ‘ Hush”, “Woman from Tokyo”, Deep Purple remain pioneers of hard rock while maintaining their freshness and artistic audacity. In 2020 they released their 21st studio album, entitled “Whoosh!” while in 2021 they released the 22nd, “Turning to Crime”, with favorite covers.

In July 2022, Steve Morse announced that he was leaving the band for good after 28 years. Simon McBride, of Sweet Savage, officially took his place on guitars in September. Deep Purple have now entered the Mk IX period and Ian Gillan has announced their 23rd album for 2023 assuring that no thoughts of retirement cross their minds.

Shortly before the long-awaited appearance of Deep Purple on the Rockwave Festival stage, Saxon will perform, the epitome of heavy metal band with over 45 years of uninterrupted history. They are among the top live bands in the genre, a deserved title by those who have seen some of their explosive live performances fronted by their tireless onstage singer Peter “Biff” Byford, who is used to shredding the setlist to play whatever the public demands.

Saxon started their journey, in the late 70’s, in Barnsley, Yorkshire leading the explosion of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal movement. Together with Iron Maiden and Def Leppard they brought hard rock and heavy metal back to the fore and came to be considered one of the biggest and most influential heavy metal bands of all time. In 2022 they released their new album ‘Carpe Diem’, sending the powerful message ‘seize the day.
