Greek authorities are on high alert in the areas that are affected and will be affected by the bad weather that has covered western Greece and especially in Zakynthos and has already descended since 10 am on Attica where rains and storms are already occurring while it also hailed.

“Heavy rains and storms will occur initially in the Ionian Islands and the western mainland, which will locally be accompanied by increased lightning and hail. Local rainfall will occur in the rest of the country. The strong phenomena will progressively move further east and will affect the entire country. The areas that will be affected include both the prefecture of Attica and the city of Athens, as well as the prefecture and the city of Thessaloniki,” meteo.gr said in its weather forecast today, Thursday (26/1).
For the moment the biggest problems are recorded in Zakynthos where rain is continuously falling for more than 24 hours. In the early hours, 50 Roma were at risk in a camp near the airport that was flooded as they had to be evacuated with bulldozers in order to then be transferred to a boarding school.
Until this time, the provincial road Zakynthos – Kalamaki is closed, while there were falls of rocks and heavy materials on the provincial road Zakynthos – Vassilikos at Xirokastelo.
Still, in the area of Lithakia, a large boulder fell on the road due to the heavy rainfall, while problems are reported in the areas of Agios Sostis, Kalamaki, Laganas, Tsilivi, and Sarakinado.
A fire brigade operation was also needed in Laganas when five young men and women decided to go for a walk even though the area was flooded.
Greek authorities have issued the 112 message to citizens to stay safe and avoid moving.
