Greek Police have arrested two brothers, 40 and 48 years old, linked to the murder of journalist Giorgos Karaivaz.
The news of the arrests was made public by the Minister of Citizen Protection, Takis Theodorikakos, who announced in a post that the Police are continuing their investigations to solve the case.
According to sources, the two arrested are unscrupulous criminals, involved in cases of robbery and extortion, while evidence has emerged that one is also implicated in the case of the murder of boxer Haris Kontoiorgis in December 2021 in Galatsi. According to the information of protothema.gr, the two men were arrested in Neo Voutza and Nikaia.
According to reports, the two suspects were accomplices of the actual murderer(s) of George Karaivaz acting as watch-out men. One of them was on a motorcycle and the other in a van, which was also the one that “betrayed” the perpetrators.
In particular, ELAS tracked down the motorbike which, from the data obtained from the footage provided by the cameras in the wider area where the murder took place, was travelling for some time alongside a van. This van was found to belong to a cleaning company owned by the wife of one of the two arrested brothers.
In fact, the same van was spotted by cameras the previous day moving near Karaivaz’s house, the day on which his killers allegedly did the “final rehearsal”.
The two men are being held at the Homicide Department and will be brought before the prosecutor tomorrow. It should be noted that the case file contains the names of two more people, but an arrest warrant has not yet been issued for them.
