A forest fire has broken near Egion a town in Achaea, West Greece, on the Peloponnese and Greek authorities informed people via a message from 112 notifying people to be careful.

As reported, those who are in the settlement of Kastro should evacuate toward Katholiko.

The fire has broken out in a rugged area near the settlement of Zachloritika in Aigialia. According to the Coordination of the Region, the exact location of the fire is Agia Irini and ground forces of the Fire Brigade have rushed to the spot. Specifically, 47 firefighters with 16 vehicles are operating, while from the air three planes and two helicopters are making water drops. The dense smoke is visible from various areas of the municipality of Aigialia.

It is noted that due to the fire in the area of Dervenaki of Aegialeia, the movement of vehicles in both traffic streams was interrupted on the old highway Patras – Corinth, at the height of 162.5 km, at the bridge “Tsagri”.

In addition, the train service on the line Diakopto-Kalavryta-Diakopto is temporarily interrupted by an order of the Fire Brigade, due to the fire in Dervenaki Aigialia. Route 1337 will be operated by bus, according to Hellenic Train.
