PM Mitsotakis “clashes” with political leaders on the devastating fires in Parliament (watch live)

The PM is expected to respond tp criticisms about the large fires

Newsroom August 31 11:00

A fierce political clash at the level of political leaders over the recent fires is expected in the Greek Parliament today as MPs return after the summer break.

The proceedings were conducted following a request submitted by the Prime Minister, pursuant to Rule 142A of the Rules of Procedure of the House. The President of Parliament, Mr Tasoulas, is currently speaking.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis will open the debate and will reportedly brief the national delegation on the recent fires, the measures to support the affected people, the plan to restore the ecological disaster in Evros, and the initiatives launched by the government to address the consequences of the climate crisis.

The opposition leaders’ opening statements will follow and there will be a round of second speeches to close the proceedings with the Prime Minister’s final statement.
