Two Ukrainian sisters may pay with their freedom for their unconscionable decision to shoot a video where they are dancing and twerking at a cemetery of fallen soldiers in Kiev.

According to the Daily Mail, the two young women visited the grave of their father, who died defending his country against Russian invaders in eastern Donetsk, on 24 August. At one point during their visit, one of the two girls (who were dressed in shorts and bustiers) took out her cell phone, set it up in one spot, and did a short… choreography against the background of the soldiers’ graves, which were decorated with flowers and the Ukrainian flag.

Although her sister didn’t participate at first, probably because she was on the phone, she then decided to make an impressive finale by going in front of the camera and twerking.

As the British newspaper reports, the two girls posted the video on Instagram, causing a storm of outrage from commenters. An hour later, they were spotted by local police, and the photos of their arrest that were released show them wearing the exact same clothes as their visit to the cemetery.

Police confirmed that the girls, whose names have not been released, will be prosecuted for grave desecration and face up to five years in prison.

Following the furore caused by the two women’s actions, the sisters apologised in a social media post, saying they had not intended to insult the memory of the dead heroes.

Admitting that it was a mistake to take the video, they explained that at the time it didn’t seem wrong to them because their father would have found their behaviour funny.
