Unprecedented weather event hits Abu Dhabi: Hail, rain, and flooding shock residents

Residents of Abu Dhabi and Dubai woke up early Monday morning to lightning, thunder and torrential rain.

Meanwhile, even before dawn, parts of Abu Dhabi were covered in hail.

The National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) issued a red and yellow alert to warn of more rain until six in the afternoon.

Westerly wind currents, a cold air mass across the country and a depression in the upper air are responsible for the weather.
