Hi-Tech tax controls: Tax inspectors patrol with portable cameras, tablets & scanners

Tax inspectors now attend appointments with portable cameras that transmit real-time video and audio to the operations center

Newsroom February 16 11:25

High-tech tax inspections, reminiscent of scenes from a movie, are now being conducted by the Independent Authority for Public Revenue.

Pen and paper are a thing of the past. Tax inspectors now attend appointments with portable cameras that transmit real-time video and audio to the operations center.

They even have tablets on hand containing the taxpayer’s complete financial profile, enabling them to cross-reference and issue on-the-spot tax assessments and fines.

Moreover, even on the streets, using special devices small as mobile phones, they verify the validity of a receipt issued by a store.

Soon, special teams with portable scanners will also patrol, checking vehicle license plates to see if they should be inoperable and if the driver has paid vehicle taxes.

At the same time, through drones and satellite maps at their headquarters in Moschato, checks are conducted for undeclared swimming pools in homes.

Their arsenal is supplemented by seven specially trained inspectors who scan on a daily basis photos and social media posts for hidden wealth, while they also run a special algorithm that can reveal false declarations and identify centers of ‘black’ money.
