University rally at Propylaea, closed Panepistimiou Street – See videos and photos

The measures of the Traffic Police

Newsroom March 8 01:01

The educational sector expresses its opposition to tonight’s expected vote on the bill for the establishment of non-state universities.

Traffic regulations have been put in place by the traffic police in the center of Athens that will last until the evening, as parallel rallies are taking place on the occasion of International Women’s Day and the passage of the bill for non-state universities.

Workers and feminist organisations are expected to stand by the students, as a work stoppage has been announced by the Athens Labour Centre, while a similar mobilisation has been announced on the occasion of International Women’s Day, with both calls being made for Klathmonos Square.

The participation of a large number of people from trade unions, workers’ centres, teachers, students and pupils’ associations as well as other bodies and collectives is expected.

In this context, in order to safeguard the right of citizens to assemble, the Greek Police will take the necessary traffic measures by carrying out occasional diversions and traffic stops, so as not to unduly disrupt the social and economic life of the city.

Specifically, traffic regulations will be implemented gradually and on a case-by-case basis – where necessary and depending on the traffic of the demonstrators – on roads around Propylaia, Omonia Square (Patision, Aeolou etc.), Syntagma Square (Othonos, Amalias and Vassilissis Sofias Avenues) as well as on the roads of Panepistimiou, Stadiou and Akademia.

Drivers of vehicles are requested to avoid moving on the above roads until the conclusion of the rallies – mobilizations.

In case of implementation of additional traffic regulations, there will be a further update.
